Birthday in style! As part of lady_curmudgeon's 40th birthday last month I gifter her two tickets to see Blue Man Group. Well, the day has arrived and we're off to the show! What I didn't tell Mudgeon was that I had us set to ride down to Briar Street Theater in style. As I write this from my CrackBerry we are heading north on I-55 in a white stretch limo. It seats something like 8 people but we're the only ones in here. Our driver is cool, and mildly aggressive in his driving style. This pleases me!
We had a nice dinner at BD's Mongolian before departure and are now just chilling out while the driver does all the work. I could get used to this!

Need a Definitive *Local* Gardening Resource I'm getting conflicting gardening information from a number of sources: for example, my Square Foot Gardening book says to water one plant sparingly, while a fairly reputable source on the Internet says to water it deeply. And most books and web sites give general info and doesn't break it down to this region or climate. I've got some pest and damage problems I need to troubleshoot so I'm looking for reference information. Does anyone know of a really good resource (either book or web site or something else) for gardening in the Northeast?
ETA: And what the hell does "1 inch water per week" mean, anyway? That is NOT useful ...
Dear Brian, Thank you for your interest in the Data Center Technician position at T---- R------- C------. We are impressed by your resume and would like to set up a brief phone interview. Irwin Allen is being channelled... Irwin Allen, now-deceased, was the MASTER of DISASTER. Earthquake, The Poseidon Adventure, The Towering Inferno, the list goes on.
The movie 2012 (coming out in November) is a 21st century Irwin Allen Disaster Fest.
Someone has remixed the 2012 trailer to get a 1970's-era trailer with an Irwin Allen feel...totally in-cheek:
One for the Wargamers... So. A game called "The Eagle and the Sun" is a simulation of World War Two naval battles in the Pacific. The designers, however, apparently were on some good drugs, and included 'fantasy' units, such as the 'Aircraft Carrier Blimps' that the US considered building.
However, they also included another more... Well, I'll let you see if you can find it yourself.
Seven years ago (plus one day), I started blogging. It was something Brad was doing and there were a lot of neat people out there to read and be friends with. I've had many URLs over the years, but I'm happy with this one (for now, anyway). During this time, I've sold a house, gotten a divorce (but am still friends with him!), moved to MA, lost my job, fell in love, adopted a stray kitty, lived with the one of the easiest to live with people I've ever met, moved in with my sweetheart. I've blogged about my allergies (at least they're environmental and not food or medicines), various family members and their lives and health issues, silly Internet memes and quizzes. I've posted photos of all kinds of things.
I've been busy.
I've made 2,795 posts (plus this one) here and gotten 7,150 comments (some of those are mine replying to yours). I have 2,325 posts over at LiveJournal, but a number of them are from here. I've gotten 8,675 comments over there and left a whopping 14,976!
This is the video with which we concluded Anthrocon 2009's opening ceremonies.
Thanks to Tek and Dire for 'suiting, to Xanie for animal wrangling, to KP for the live performance, and to Kage for standing on the DLCC roof in sub-freezing February wind and pretending it was July.
The first was my brother's birthday - happy birthday, brother! The seventh was when my mom had surgery on her right hand for carpal tunnel (left hand is in August). Today is when my stepfather has surgery. A dear friend of mine lost his father last night. Another friend of mine (who I don't get to see very often even though we're local to each other) is battling some serious health shit (tm). And somehow the sun is out and the skies are blue. Here's hoping things get better for all of us. And soon.
1. The last thing I ate was _a tasty seafood burrito_ and _rice and beans_.
2. _A duck boat tour ticket_ is something I recently bought.
3. When it rains, it _really does seem to pour_.
4. _James_ was the first person I talked to today.
5. Hugs are _one of the most comforting things in the world_.
6. _I'm padded for_ extra comfort.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to _*_, tomorrow my plans include _*_ and Sunday, I want to _go to a friend's housewarming party_!
* Plans are up in the air. Camping - maybe. Or seeing the aforementioned friend - maybe. Trying not to hide under a rock - definitely.
Go little Saturn, go! We stopped for fuel at the trip's halfway point of Lyndon Station, WI. We filled up and found we had travelled 337.5 miles on 8.498 gallons of regular 87 octane gasoline. That comes out to 39.75 MPG, and that was with the air conditioner on for most of the way! Win! Not bad for a car that's almost 10 years old, eh?
Yes, I really like lady_curmudgeon's little Saturn four-door.
Driving home from the holiday As we pass through Eau Clare, WI, the first 100 miles of this leg of the trip are done. There's only 324 more miles to go before we arrive home! I enjoyed the hell out of CONvergence 2009 as well as splitting the time so we could visit my parents. They sent me home with a few unexpected items that I will write about later. With some accompanying photos, I think.
For now - driving!
